We conduct training for publishers, editors of local newspapers and high school and middle school students. In 2010, together with Tygodnik Podhalański, we started a project under the slogan Media Academy of the Podhale region. We invite journalists and employees of local publishing houses from all over Poland to the workshops in our region.
We also conducted trainings abroad: in Moldova, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Ukraine. Our training offer is addressed to:
• journalists - mainly beginners, as well as those already having some professional experience. Thanks to our training, journalists and collaborators of local magazines can get acquainted with the basics of journalistic and investigative journalism, while for practitioners this is a good opportunity to refresh and organize knowledge, improve skills, make new contacts;
• publishers - mainly smaller local magazines or those who have been publishing their newspapers for a short time;
• high school and middle school students interested in journalism. • teachers who run school newspapers and journalism circles
An example of workshops
FOUNDATIONS OF THE JOURNAL WORKSHOP The training consists of the following thematic blocks:
• THEME AND IDEAS - gives the ability to distinguish between what an idea is and what the journalist theme is; in many practical exercises, participants search for ideas for describing given topics, evaluate them together, and on selected examples they devise ways to implement them; the usefulness of the "journal of topics" in the profession of a journalist and the effectiveness of work using the brainstorming method are underlined;
• HOW TO WRITE WELL? - participants will get acquainted with basic workshop errors; they work on exemplary materials to create rules for correct writing and collecting materials; the next stage is practical exercises - writing texts based on the information provided and their joint evaluation;
2. GAZETA GRAPHIC COATING is a workshop aimed at familiarizing the participants with the principles of breaking the newspaper. During the classes, the participants will learn the basic principles of the proper layout of pages, including: the distribution of press texts on the site, selection and placement of photos (photo edition). The workshop creates practical exercises related to the folding of newspaper pages. At the same time, participants will become familiar with the basic terms related to this field.
3. PROMOTION AND ADVERTISING AT THE LOCAL GAS The participants will learn to define the goals of promotional activities and choose appropriate methods for them as well as learn how to plan such activities in the local publishing house. They will find out the need to separate the responsibilities of a journalist and a marketer, prepare an advertising offer and present themselves in contact with a potential client.
4. SCIENTIFIC JOURNALISTS This is a training conducted in the form of simulations. Participants have the task to conduct a journalistic investigation, and based on the obtained materials - to write a ready press text. Thanks to this workshop journalists participating in it will learn not only 2 methods of journalistic investigation and ways of gathering information, but also - in practical exercises - improve their journalistic skills and supplement the legal knowledge necessary in this profession. Attention! Due to the need to train by two trainers, it's good to be at the weekend (2x8 hours)
5. PRINCIPLES OF PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY This is a workshop combining elements of the theoretical introduction to press photography with practical field exercises. In the practical part, the participants have the task of making a photojournalism on a previously agreed subject. The ending is the assessment of the work carried out.
6. TRAINING CENT This workshop formula is used as a summary of the entire training cycle. During the camp, participants use the knowledge gained during previous workshops. Their task is to organize a press editorial, share responsibilities, and finally go out, gather information and write texts. At the end, they have to gather everything together and put together a newspaper, which everyone will receive in a paper version at the end of the workshop. The camp lasts at least 3 days.
