The Experimental Department of the Institute of Animal Production PIB Kołbacz Spółka z oo is located in the Stare Czarnowo commune in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. It was created on July 4, 1967. In December 2000, the plant was transformed into a limited liability company, in which the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Krakow has a 100% share. The share capital of the Company is currently PLN 33,422,000.00.

The Kołbacz Experimental Plant manages 4,000 ha of arable land, of which arable land constitutes 2721 ha, and 900 ha for meadows and pastures, and employs 84 employees.

This institution was established to conduct scientific research, trainings and implementations in the area of ​​breeding and breeding cattle, pigs and sheep in the conditions of a large-scale farm. The company bred Polish Holstein-Friesian breed cows, Suffolk and Pomeranian sheep (conservative breed) and 'Sokólska' horses.

In 2005, as part of the restructuring of the plant, modernization of livestock facilities in Dębina for the purpose of free-standing cowsheds was started. As a result, a modern farm of dairy cattle for 700 milk cows was established, the effect of which is to increase the milk yield from 1 cow from 6117 in 2000 to 11000 liters in 2013. In 2013, sales amounted to over 6.7 million liters.

The cattle farm includes cowsheds, calves, juniper and worms. Animals are kept in a free-standing system. The buildings are equipped with modern equipment, such as feed tables, lair beds, heated feeders, milk calving machines, pastures, air mixers, water sprinklers, curtains, skylights, etc. In addition, one of the modernized rooms has a milking parlor according to the technology of the Israeli company. " Afikim "2x16 type" Parallel ". In addition, to modernize milk production costs, the feed mixing was modernized.

The company is well-organized in the experimental database, based on modern devices and equipment used to collect current data in terms of milk yield, nutrition and health status of cows. The information obtained on this way based on the computer system allows for rational management of the herd. The electronic identifiers (pedometers) installed on the limbs of the cows provide information to the computer system, among others from the scope of their production, physical activity, body weight or milking time.

In the years 2008-2009, a drying and storage complex for cereals and rapeseed with a storage capacity of 8,000 tons and sheds for storage of 3000 tons of hay and straw was built. In addition, the company is equipped with modern, very efficient equipment for soil cultivation, fertilization, crop protection and crop harvesting.

In 2008, the process of creating an organic farm in Glinna on the area of ​​320 ha of arable land was started. In order to ensure optimal zoohygienic conditions as well as well-being, construction and modernization works were undertaken to keep animals in a free-standing system on deep litter, with the possibility of using catwalks throughout the year. The modernization also concerned rooms intended for delivery rooms, rearing offspring, as well as places for performing necessary veterinary and zootechnical procedures. All modernization and adaptation work has improved the microclimate of the rooms. In the prepared facilities with the status of an organic farm, it is planned to conduct extensive research in the field of breeding and breeding animals in ecological conditions, based on fodder from agricultural land with appropriate certificates. At present, the Suffolk and Pomorska breed (conservative breed), goat - Burska breed, cows - crosses of meat breeds and "Sokólska" horses are kept on the Glinna ecological farm.

In the Experimental Department of the Institute of Animal Production PIB Kołbacz Sp. z o. o. There are numerous scientific works, in particular in the field of milk production technology, rearing calves and juveniles, environmental protection, animal nutrition, sheep rearing, animal product quality and economics.

The Experimental Department cooperates with the Szczecin universities, ie the West Pomeranian University of Technology and the University of Szczecin, as well as with the University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz. He also cooperates with the National Research Institute of Agriculture and Fisheries in Dummersdorf in Germany, the University of Agriculture in Gorki in Belarus, the University of Agriculture in Kharkov in Ukraine and the University of Agriculture in Moldova. In addition, it is a place of student training of agricultural colleges from all over Poland, including SGGW in Warsaw and the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław. The practical knowledge acquired here by students raises their professional qualifications.

In 2005-2009 at the Experimental Station of the Institute of Animal Production PIB Kołbacz Sp. z o. o. one purpose-oriented project was implemented: "Development and implementation of milk and beef production technology with functional properties on a dairy cow farm in a farm with a large area of ​​permanent grassland", commissioned by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Currently, as part of the research work of the Institute of Animal Production at the National Research Institute in Krakow, ZDIZ PIB Kołbacz Sp. z o. o. 6 scientific projects are carried out, including 1 multi-annual program.
